Littlesheep Learning

Sometimes I get asked if there's a way to contribute to the new songs fund. I taught my grandchildren to sing it and they love it. 5 little ducks went swimming one day, over the hills and far away, Mother duck said quack, quack, quack, 4 little ducks came swimming back. Check out her post 5 Little Ducks Math here Since we are not working with equations yet, I had my students decompose the number 5 then label the parts with number cards.

I created this cute piggy craft for International Mud Day, but it would work well with a piggy nursery rhyme too if you changed the words you put with it. Adults traced the circles for the body, head and snout, triangles for ears, and squares for legs, then the children cut them out.

If you have children who are learning to read, I do have one more fun nursery rhyme activity to share with you: My Nursery Rhyme Sentence Picture Match has 12 simple sentences and pictures for young readers to pair up. It makes a fun center activity, and there is a follow up worksheet included.

They count down as ducks are removed, and return them when all the ducks come back! I made simple squirrels for this rhyme by using the template created by Melanie Fitz that was shared on the Storytime Stuff blog. Nursery rhymes are an example of story songs and they stay with us as they are passed from one generation to another. Kim shares free printables, educational activities and family life on Life Over C's. Then 4 down to no little ducks went swimming one day, over the hills and far away.

Mr Exuberance loves long lists of words that rhyme and likes to say these with an adult. We have lots of favourite songs Little Babies Collection of Nursery Rhymes and nursery rhyme play activities coming up on the blog soon, so check back often or sign up for email updates to see all the posts! Vocabulary Painting: Instead of a paintbrush, let your little one paint with objects found in various Nursery Rhymes. The kids will dissolve into peals of laughter and free you up to get a few things done. At the end of the story, reunite all five ducklings on the flannel board or hold all ducks together.

Here's the version in The Real Mother Goose (1916), illustrated by Blanche Fisher Wright.Watch this song in the below video. We've sung This is the way we brush our teeth to the Mulberry bush tune, Three big whales went swimming one day to the tune of Five little ducks went swimming one day and Pitter, patter compost while emptying the potato sacks.

Let your imagination go wild with this because with a little creativity you can make your girl's room anything from a Disney Princess room to a nursery rhyme room. After mama duck quacked, the girl holding the number 5 hid her duck behind her back, and the we raised up the remaining ducks as we counted 1, 2, 3, 4. He lined his ducks up, took them for a swim over the hill, looked at the numbers and counted his ducks and used his imagination to play with his ducks in the pond.
